Introduction

A note: I’m reorganizing this site to encompass a wider range of my stories related to aviation. After reading again Uncle John’s “I Flew Them All“, I plan to tell my own story about Aviation in My Life.

Airplanes and flying have been a part of my life for almost as long as I can remember. I can’t say when or how it started, but it must have been early. Perhaps I was first exposed to an airplane when, as a two year old I accompanied my then new stepfather to the Naval Air Station at Quonset Point just before he returned to civilian life, where he was a pilot on PMY’s and PBMs. Or hearing stories about my uncle John Young flying in the Army Air Force. Or my first -real- memory of any association with airplanes: my first ride in an airplane, a Piper J-3 Cub, which Uncle John had for a short time when I must have been 7 or 8 years old.

So perhaps it started from those experiences. But the interest grew over time. I had a collection of Revel plastic model airplanes of the day when I was in junior high school extending until graduation from high school. I attempted to get a flying model airplane – U-control versions, without much success (there was no one in Hoxie to be a mentor). I subscribed to the magazine “Air Progress” and looked forward to reading each month’s issue, cover to cover.

In this web site, you will find a mixture of stories revolving around Aviation in My Life.

  • My Flying Experiences offers a history of my personal experiences flying in airplanes as a passenger and as private pilot.
  • Flying Stories is a collection of stories about my experiences in aviation and those of others.
  • Flying in New Mexico (and Occasionally Elsewhere) is a listing of flying that I’ve done around New Mexico.
  • Resources are lists of online resources related to Aviation.

Development of this web site is first, to bring back into focus memorable times. And second to offer it to anyone interested in this aspect of my life story.
