Flying to -go somewhere- has been at the forefront of my joy as a pilot. It started with my first solo cross country flight when I could choose the destination – I flew from the Air Force Academy (near Colorado Springs) to my home town, Hoxie, in northwest Kansas – for breakfast with my parents (1965). Subsequently I’d flow:
- From Wright Field, Wright-Patterson AFB OH: a few times to Kansas and once to Kansas and Denver via Eglin AFB FL and return (1968 with my wife)
- From Edwards AFB CA to Kansas and on to Eglin and return (1979 with my family)
- From Langley AFB VA to Texas, Albuquerque, Colorado Springs, Kansas (again) and return (2006 with my wife)
But, I hadn’t really done a Coast-To-Coast aCross (the) Country. This is the story of that (for us) epic Cross Country flight(s).
For starters, here are links to downloads:
- A map from GoogleEarth showing the general route of flight and placemarks for each of the 22 airports that we visited.
- A .kml file for GoogleEarth of the route of flight and airports that we visited.
- A slide presentation of the trip.
This is a placeholder for (someday) a larger narrative for the story of this epic flight. Thanks for visiting.
