Pat and I flew from the Santa Fe airport (SAF) to explore the Rio Puerco valley, looking for the village of Guadalupe and other features of interest. We were also hoping to identify the homestead of Nasario Garcia whose book “Hoes, Heaven and Hell” which we’ve recently been reading.
We took off from SAF about 9:00, flying a Remos GX we rent from New Mexico Sport Aviation. It was a beautiful day for flying – clear and calm air throughout the flight. We climbed from field elevation of 6300 feet to 8100 feet, contacted Approach Control for Flight Following, and headed west over Cochiti Lake, the south end of the Jemez Mountains, White Mesa, and the Ojito Wilderness, then skirted the south end of Mesa Prieta into the Rio Puerco valley.
