EAA’s Ford Trimotor visited Albuqueque’s Double Eagle II airport again this year, on Nov 15. It was here earlier in the year, offering the public the chance to see this historic aircraft up close, and the opportunity to ride in this – the first all-metal airliner.<\/p>\n
I’ve again volunteered to make this event a success for our local EAA chapter #179. And because I was “hanging around” with my bright orange line vest, and there was a seat available for the last flight of the day … I was offered a seat. ‘Tho I had flown this airplane (or one like it, from this plane’s home airport, Port Clinton Ohio) some 55 years ago on an excursion flight over Lake Erie, I accepted the invitation to fly in it again.<\/p>\n
I was last to board, and I sat in the last seat in the back of the aircraft. Weather was cool and windless, so the air was -very- smooth, as was the flight. The three radial engines make a fair amount of noise, but otherwise the flight was very comfortable. The aircraft flies at 80 mph .. for takeoff, cruise, and landings. It was such a beautiful time of day, near sunset, that the views were terrific. I hope the photos below convey that to you.<\/p>\nngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n
