SOLD – 2011 R-Pod RP-177

Our dear RP-177, purchased in January 2010, served us well until we replaced it in 2022 with an RP-171 (an RP-171 only because Forest River stopped production of the RP-177 in the late 201x’s).

Great camping trailer, perfect for a couple or small family:

  • Towing is comfortable with SUV or small truck (e.g. Tacoma) – 9 ft length, 8 ft width, 2,300 lbs dry weight, 1,450 payload, GVWR: 3,732 lbs.
  • For the 177’s size, the interior is and feels roomy, with enough space for two people to not feel cramped.
  • The streamlined shape and light weight make for easy towing on the highways and on back roads.
  • With ample fresh water supply and battery capacity with solar charging, this is a perfect RV for dispersed camping and primitive campgrounds.
  • 4 person dinette (42″ x 74″), can be rearranged for 2-person bed; has storage under seats
  • Kitchen area: sink, gas cooktop, and fridge in slideout which leaves wide walkthrough to the sleeping space
  • Queen size bed (60″ x 74″), with topper
  • Bath with shower and toilet (toilet never used), exhaust fan

Very efficient Kitchen area:

  • Three way refrigerator (propane, AC, or 12v), new in 2020
  • Two-burner propane cooktop
  • Single sink
  • Drawers and cabinet under counter plus overhead storage
  • Microwave oven available (removed to provide more kitchen storage space)

All the necessary Utilities:

  • Propane heater with thermostat and DC electric fan
  • Air conditioner (requires shore power)
  • Propane hot water heater
  • Tanks: 36 gal fresh water (with DC water pump), 30 gal grey water, 30 gal black water (never used)
  • AC service: 30 amp RV power cord, multiple interior outlets and one exterior outlet
  • DC service – two 6 volt T-105 deep cycle batteries (225 ah@ 12v) new in 2019
  • Plus — portable 70 watt solar panel with charge controller
  • Multiple 12v outlets (some with USB charging receptacles); 12 volt LED lights throughout
  • Hoses: fresh water fill hose, 12 ft grey/black water drain hose
  • Propane Tank: 20 pound

From the outside:

  • Exterior refurbished top to bottom and new decals in 2020
  • Large pass-through storage compartment with external access from both sides of camper (located under the bed, isolated from the interior)
  • Hitch for 2″ ball, anti-sway bar
  • 2″ lifts installed when new
  • Tires: ST205/75Rl4 (26.7″ diameter), new in 2020, plus spare with cover
  • No damage history

We have realized great enjoyment in our RP-177

  • For 4 years it was set up at our cabin site, our home-away-from-home while we built the cabin.
    • We were most comfortable, “living” in the R-Pod for 2-3 weeks at a time, winter and summer.
  • For the past 9 years we have traveled and camped extensively, towing it initially with a 2003 Chevrolet S-10, then a Honda Odyssey (including a trip from Albuquerque to San Diego), and for the past 8 years with a 2013 Tacoma. And we have traveled around the Southwest (New Mexico and Arizona) and as far as the Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho.
    • This speaks to the “towability” of this relatively small, lightweight trailer camper.
  • In those years we have camped at many National Forest campgrounds, seldom using sites with hookups. And on some trips setting up in primitive campgrounds and even dispersed camping sites.
    • This speaks highly of the small size and footprint of the RP-177 coupled with the efficiency in use of power, water, and propane to be comfortable wherever, whenever.
